Prayer Can Accomplish Much

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.
The Message

James 5:13–20
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,
20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

LET’S NOT GET TOO WRAPPED UP WITH
“WHO IS RIGHTEOUS” OR WHO IS “EFFECTIVE”.
LET’S JUST UNDERSTAND THAT PRAYER CAN ACCOMPISH MUCH”

IF GOD’S INTERVENTION IS WHAT YOU NEED, THEN PRAYER IS THE ANSWER.

Is anyone suffering?
Pray

Is Anyone Cheerful?
Sing Psalms

Is anyone sick?
Call the elders of the church. Let them anoint him with oil and pray over him. The prayer of faith will save the sick. The Lord will raise him up.

If he has commited sins...
He will be forgiven.

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man (woman) can accomplish much.

• A righteous man. (Someone in right standing with God)
• Persistent and heartfelt prayer.
• Elijah was a man just like us.
• Saving a soul from death (turning a sinner from the error of his way).
• Covering over a multitude of sins.

SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER
Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer
Thy wings shall my petitions bear
To him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless
And since he bids me seek his face,
Believe his word and trust his grace
I’ll cast on him my every care
And wait for thee sweet hour of prayer
