Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

SCRIPTURE: I CORINTHIANS 12, 14



THERE ARE DIFFERENT KINDS OF GIFTS BUT THE SAME SPIRIT
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
I Corinthians 12:4 (NIV)

• Wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous power, prophecy, discernment, tonguesm, interpretation of tongues
• Not everyone has the same gifting. (Do all prophecy? Do all speak with other tongues??)
• If someone has a gift of wisdom, it is the same miraculous Spirit that is at work.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS COME FOR THE "COMMON GOOD".
Now to each on the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
I Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)

• Manifestation means that the Spirit will become apparent. Show that HE is in the church.
• The common good means that the gift will benefit everyone who hears it.
• If you have a personal gifting for your benefit, it should be used in private or quietly. If God is wanting to encourage the entire church, that is when you should be recognized and use the gift.

THE SPIRIT OF GOD DISTRIBUTES THESE GIFTS AS HE DETERMINES.
All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and HE distributes them to each one, just as HE determines.
I Corinthians 12:11 (NIV)

• It is the Spirit of God that determines what gift is appropriate. They are His gifts to disperse.
• God gave us discernment!
• We are empty shells without the Spirit of God.

WE ARE TO DESIRE THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT, BUT ESPECIALLY... PROPHECY!
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.
I Corinthians 14;1 (NIV)

Noe eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
I Corinthians 12:31 (NIV)

• Eagerly desire the "best" gifts.
• The best Spiritual gifts edify all.
• Gifts used in the "most excellent way" are tempered by LOVE. Without love you are just noise.l

WHAT HINDERS THE SPIRIT OF GOD?
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
And do not grieve the Holyh Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, braling and slander, along with every form of malaice.
Ephesians 4:29-31 (NIV)

• Our sin may hinder the Spirit's work in our church.
• Our apathy may hinder the work of the Spirit in our church.
• Our fear of man may hinder the work of the Spirit in our church.
