Sermon Notes

SCRIPTURE: JOEL 2:28-32

Intro: Imagine an unlimited source of clean and safe energy that is for everyone at no cost. No electric company charging you and no gas company gouging anyone. No unsafe environmental impact…just energy. Imagine how people would feel about the person who brought this to them.

Joel 2:28–32 (AMP)

28 And afterward I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.
29 Even upon the menservants and upon the maidservants in those days will I pour out My Spirit.
30 And I will show signs and wonders in the heavens, and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.
32 And whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered and saved, for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the remnant [of survivors] shall be those whom the Lord calls.

God announces a new and distinctive season.

Recovery from Rebellion

I will bring you back from your rebellious living and restore life.

Only a saved person understands “all things are new” after screwing up their lives on their own (without God).

A Famine of the Word of God

Suffering from a famine of the Word of God- Amos 8:11

Is there a famine of a genuine Word of God?

Prophecy – sons and daughters
Dreams – old men
Visions – young men

I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh.

Praying for an outpouring of God’s presence

God promises unlimited access to His powerful Spirit upon all flesh.

Why would we need an outpouring? (There is a need for the Teacher of Righteousness, the Spirit of Truth)

Riverside needs a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. That all would be delivered, thirst quenched, and hunger satisfied.

Servants? He included Servants?

The recognition that God loves all of humanity.

Even those who have only experienced servitude will be included.

The poorest of the poor and the outcast from society

The Great and Terrible Day of the Lord

Description of the Day of the Lord in Matthew 24

There is a terrible day coming that we are saved from.

The Season of the Outpouring precedes the Day of the Lord.

Your redemption draws near but so does judgment.
