Sermon Notes
Hebrews 13:8 (NASB95)
8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Malachi 3:6 (NASB95)
6“For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.
Psalm 102:25–27 (NASB95)
25“Of old You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.
26“Even they will perish, but You endure; And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will be changed.
27“But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end.
Hebrews 6:17–18 (NASB95)
17In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath,
18so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.
Numbers 23:19 (NASB95)
19“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
James 1:17 (NASB95)
17Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
These scriptures emphasize the unchanging nature and character of Jesus Christ. They highlight consistency and reliability of God’s character and promise.
THE BENEFIT OF SAMENESS
1. No cover ups. He doesn’t have to lie.
2. He remembers everything perfectly. He remembers what he promised. He remembers how it happened without an instant replay.
3. He is dependable. He loves you just as much today as yesterday. He will never leave nor forsake you. He doesn’t have to play games.
4. Everyone is included. All who call upon His name.
5. He is consistent when the world is in chaos. He is the anchor that keeps me at peace. Remember: the hope for America is not in a politician. Politicians will fail you. The hope for America is found in the ONE who is the same yesterday, today and forever.
THINGS THAT I DON’T WANT TO CHANGE
1. His mercy. I am merciful, when I want to be. His mercy is more consistent.
2. His love for me. I am distracted but His eyes are always on me.
3. His patience. I am always failing, and He is long-suffering.
4. His dependability. Always there. Always loving. Always holy. He is my standard.
5. His fairness. To those who need him more He gives more. The prodigal son needed mercy.
6. He is always light. There are no shifting shadows that make me doubt Him.
7. He rewards obedience. I know that if I do well, He is there to reward that obedience.
THINGS GOD DOESN’T WANT TO CHANGE
1. Our love for Him. We must commit to loving Him all the time. He wants us to love steadfastly.
2. Our love for each other. God is the same, but man is sometimes a moving target.
3. Our view of the world. Let me see this world as though I were looking through your eyes. How does God see your enemy?
4. Our faith in Him. Believe in God’s unchanging sameness.
