Contending for the Faith
(Authentic Christian Living)

Text: Jude 1-4

“Jude a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. To those who have been
called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ. Mercy, peace
and love be yours in abundance.

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we
share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for
all entrusted to the saints.

For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly
slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God
into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.”

I) We Belong to Him: (Verses 1-2)

“Jude a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. To those who have been
called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ. Mercy, peace
and love be yours in abundance.”

A) We are called by Him:

B) We are loved by Him:

C) We are kept by Him:

I belong to the King, I’m a child of his love,
I shall dwell in his palace so fair;
For He tells of its bliss in yon heaven above
And his Children in splendor shall share.

I belong to the King, I’m a child of His love,
And he never forsaketh His own;
He shall call me some day to His palace above,

I shall dwell by His glorified throne.

I belong to the King, and he loves me I know,
For his mercy and kindness, so free,
Are unceasingly mine wheresoever I go,
And a refuge unfailing his He.

II) Contend for the Faith; (Verses 3-4)

“Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we
share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for
all entrusted to the saints. For certain men whose condemnation was written
about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who
change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ
our only Sovereign and Lord.”

Two things in closing:

  1. It matters how we live.
  2. Never forget who you belong to.

I belong to the King, I’m a child of His love,

And he never forsaketh His own; He shall call me some day to His palace above, I shall dwell by His glorified throne.
