I’ve reposted the feed for #49. Some of you may get the show twice now. I got word that iTunes didn’t like the last feed, nor did some iPodder software. So, I reposted with a modified file name.
Sorry about that. I guess that’s what I get for hand coding the RSS feed. Maybe I should be using one of those new fang-dangled podcasters’ software programs. Nah.
I?m sure you?ve been hearing reports of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.
I heard a report on last night?s news that said that according to F.E.M.A., the federal emergency management agency, this hurricane looks to be the largest natural disaster in U.S. history.
As you know, in my last podcast, I talked about loving our fellowman. One of the ways that we can do that is to bring help to the helpless. To bring relief to the homeless. Jesus said that when we give a drink of water in his name, it is as if we are giving him a drink.
One of the ways we can do that is by making donations to organizations who are taking help into the areas affected by the hurricane. I have put links to two reputable organizations on the Lifespring shownotes website at lifespringpodcast.com. One of the organizations is the Salvation Army and the other is the Red Cross.
I urge you to make a donation today to one of these organizations. They have the systems in place to be as efficient as possible in getting help where it is needed.
Listen, Jesus demonstrated his love to us by serving and by giving sacrificially. He did that as an example of how we are to love one another. Let us show our love to our fellowman by giving sacrificially.
One more thing we can do for the hurting is to pray. Pray that God?s hand will be on the victims, pray that God will lead the search and rescue teams to survivors quickly, pray that His love will be shown and that yes, good will come out of even this.
Remember, the ferocity of this hurricane may have come as a surprise to us, but it was not a surprise to God. He knew, because he is God. Don?t get me wrong, I?m not saying that he caused Katrina. But he knew it was coming. God is outside of time, so he sees the past the present and the future.
The Bible tells us that we live in a world that is suffering the effects of sin. It says that bad things befall everyone, the just and the unjust.
As I said in the last Lifespring, he can bring good out of every event in a believer?s life. Yes, he can bring good even out of this. To us, the effects of this hurricane look enormous, too much to bear. But this is not too big for God, the creator of the universe. The one who made everything that is.
Pray that we will look to him for help in this hour. Pray that his hand of strength and deliverance and comfort will rest on those who need him.
Romans 8:28 (New International Version)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Matthew 22:37 – 40 (NIV)
Jesus replied: ??Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.? This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ?Love your neighbor as yourself.?All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.?
