Lifespring!139 “More! More! More!”
Is more always better? Where does contentment come in? Who’s in charge of what is in your life?
We talk about that, and where I have gotten a bit off the mark in my own life.
Scriptures
Philippians 4:11 [show] Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. (ESV)
– 13 (TMSG) 11Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally. I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. 12I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. 13Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.
Matthew 9:10 [show] And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. (ESV)
– 13 (TMSG) 10Later when Jesus was eating supper at Matthew’s house with his close followers, a lot of disreputable characters came and joined them. 11When the Pharisees saw him keeping this kind of company, they had a fit, and lit into Jesus’ followers. “What kind of example is this from your Teacher, acting cozy with crooks and riff-raff?” 12Jesus, overhearing, shot back, “Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? 13Go figure out what this Scripture means: ‘I’m after mercy, not religion.’ I’m here to invite outsiders, not coddle insiders.”
