I had a conversation with someone this past week that made me think about choices and the dichotomy within us. Listen to the show to find out who this man is, and that one of the Bible’s authors experienced the same thing!
Friendship…from a Biblical perspective, from your emails, and a story of friendship from a different perspective. Scriptures
The greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends. You are my friends if you obey me.I no longer call you servants, because a master doesn’t confide in his servants. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me (John 15:13-15).
A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.” (Proverbs 17:17[show] A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity. )
Wounds from a friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. (Proverbs 27:6[show] Faithful are the wounds of a friend;
profuse are the kisses of an enemy. )
As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend. (Proverbs 27:17[show] Iron sharpens iron,
and one man sharpens another. )
Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?” (Amos 3:3[show] "Do two walk together,
unless they have agreed to meet? )
Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one; they get a better return for their labor. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. And on a cold night, two under the same blanket can gain warmth from each other. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.(Ecclesiastes 4:9[show] Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. (ESV) – 12)
Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8[show] For one will scarcely die for a righteous person--though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die-- but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Is more always better? Where does contentment come in? Who’s in charge of what is in your life?
We talk about that, and where I have gotten a bit off the mark in my own life.
Scriptures
Philippians 4:11[show] Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. (ESV) – 13 (TMSG) 11Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally. I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. 12I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. 13Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.
Matthew 9:10[show] And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. (ESV) – 13 (TMSG) 10Later when Jesus was eating supper at Matthew’s house with his close followers, a lot of disreputable characters came and joined them. 11When the Pharisees saw him keeping this kind of company, they had a fit, and lit into Jesus’ followers. “What kind of example is this from your Teacher, acting cozy with crooks and riff-raff?”12Jesus, overhearing, shot back, “Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? 13Go figure out what this Scripture means: ‘I’m after mercy, not religion.’ I’m here to invite outsiders, not coddle insiders.”
Philippians 4:4[show] Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. (ESV) – 7 (NIV) 4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Wow. A jam-packed show today to be sure. Today’s theme is peace.
1. The Lovely Lady LeeAnn joins us with her thoughts on the subject, and it is really her that inspired the show today. I think you’ll really see into her heart during our discussion.
2. In addition to my talk with LeeAnn, I also talk a few minutes about the current PodShow campaign and what it means for the Lifespring! Family of Podcasts. There is a call to action.
3. A couple of my friends sent me the same email this week, and I read that to you.
5: Podcast Of The Week: Chris Penn, one of the smartest guys in podcasting, has a really great show for anyone who is about to enter college, or is in college, or knows someone in that stage of life. It is called “The Financial Aid Podcast” and I highly recommend it! He also wrote some nice things about the Lifespring! podcast last week on his blog here.
