We need to change the name of the Christmas season.
It is not marked by our celebrations of the birth of Jesus as much as…the season of self-indulgence. We overspend – shelling out what we do not have! We overeat – we eat enough for 20 families! We overindulge each other – we allow people and even our kids to do things (some even unethical) that we would never allow at any other season! We overcelebrate – we spend more time making it look like Christmas than properly celebrating it.
And boy do we stress out!
We stress over childrens programs, adult Christmas parties, and family get-togethers. How many of us were unhappy at how someone responded or didn’t respond to you this past week?
In the light of eternity…what will all this stress and fretting matter?
And for goodnes sake…it’s more important to buy the proper gift and greet with “Merry Christmas” than to sit down and tell someone about the the best gift…the gift of a savior.
